Default Skills

In the original (no gameplay) trailer for APB: All Points Bulletin Video Game, Trailer | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com, there is a part where the criminals break into a car. When they do this there is an on screen skill progress bar for both picking the lock and silencing the alarm. I was wondering what others thought might be good skills to have as either criminal or enforcer and also how should they (and should they) improve? With use? Buy skill up with in game credit (money/exp) or should there be default skill sets kinda like in CoD whereby an enforcer sharpshooter might have a pick lock skill to gain entrance to rooftops or a getaway driver might have improved handling of vehicles.

Any ideas about potential skills?

Haven't they said there isn't any selectable classes? Your 'class' is simply how you opt to do stuff, playstyle wise. As to the skill idea, I'm hoping they increase the more you use them as the main way of advancing it, though maybe let people pay for experience in whichever skill every so often (have it on a cooldown), could be done by paying NPCs to give you a demonstration/instruction/course in whatever.

Would certainly make robbing things more fun anyway, rather than hitting a single key to stop a car, pull the driver out and get in yourself. When PvP is happening it'd give a cool "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit" moment I think, trying to start a car while people are shooting all over the place. ;D

I'd love having some kind of skills. I also loathe the idea of classes, but having a skill-based-character-development-gameplay like in (I hate to say this) Runescape would actually help them to go for the freedom i believe they are aiming for

Well, there was the thing of unlocking better weapons - maybe there is a skill attached to each weapon? The more you use it you unlock 'upgrades' for it, like being able to hold more ammo, or reload it slightly faster, etc? Loved that about Farcry2 (the online part, anyhoo).

As for other skill ideas, driving maybe? Higher it gets the easier it is to make 180 turns and other stuff like that, though I'm guessing not.

Robbery? There was that bit in the E3 vid about the three guys stealing TVs from a shop, so maybe the higher the skill, the more stuff you can rob in a shorter time?

First Aid/field medic? Not sure what sort of healing they plan to have, if there is self-healing though it'd be nice if after doing it alot, you then heal yourself for more - as obviously you tend to get hurt so much that its needed! ;D

Default pick up and play?

if this game is going to be pick up and play it would be logical to severely limit the effect these skills have on gameplay. so not to create a huge gap between hardcore and casual players

True, but there would need to be something to work towards character-progression wise. Granted theres the different districts to battle over yes, but beyond that? Seems sensible to have something to be able to upgrade, beyond just getting new weapons.

Though I'll say I'm not a fan of "epic" players who are virtually undefeatable by anyone who hasn't spent hundreds of hours upgrading their character. Just minor things I think would be nice.

weapons-wise i hope they will be going for the counter-strike model of buying them for money. it would keep everyone involved, but also rewarding good and dedicated players for their efforts, while people with a cheap weapon would be challenged into using tactics to gain an advantage

Well we know there will be money at least, given people can sell designs on the auction house. Maybe when we die we lose all our weapons beyond a basic pistol maybe? Then repairs for your cars too I suppose, not to mention clothes and other cosmetic nonsense. ;D

Never did play counter-strike though, shame on me I know, what was it like there? Had to buy weapons and ammo each game or?

in counter stike you have to buy new weapons each round unless you survive. and yes there will be some money sinks i believe but not all those you list. simply because not all players will be willing to sell tons of logos just to afford a weapon. also bring into mind that crafting a logo/design can be a long and hard process.

Mmh, and for those who aren't all that artistic, frustrating! Criminals can rob shops though, so I'm guessing they make money by doing crimes (selling stolen goods, cars, etc) while enforcers might have to make money purely from killing criminals, thus get paid for doing their job.
